ICED IN-Creative Writing Part One

Time: 6:45 PM
Day: Monday February 16, 2015

We were lucky. No school for students because of President's day. It is a rare occasion that the teacher workdays fall on a Monday, resulting in a three day weekend. It wasn't a particularly sunny day and the sky said it all. The clouds were an ugly gray and they were clumped together in a way that said it was not going to be a pretty night. Snow came.

Time: 1:00 PM
Day: Tuesday February 17, 2015

This was gold. The snow which crept up on us had already started sticking. Outside the ground was mostly covered white and school was canceled again from the freezing temperatures. At this rate, we weren't going anywhere for a solid two days.

Time: 7:12 PM
Day: Tuesday February 17, 2015

It was REEEEAAlly cold outside so everyone stayed indoors for the rest of the evening. We waited for the school to call saying it would be canceled the following day. We turned up the heat and went to bed awaiting to see what would be in store for us tomorrow.

Time: 9:31 AM
Day: Wednesday February 18, 2015

We were still iced in on day two. I opened up the blinds to find something had changed. Not only did the sky appear to be even darker than it had the previous day but the ground....Oh the dreadful ground. Never had I ever seen such a sight as this before. Spread all over my yard were snow circles. Yes, you may be wondering what snow circles are. It's the same concept of crop circles- an area of standing crops that have been flattened to form various sizes of circles which can be overlapped. The circles which only explanations lead to visitations from aliens through UFO's. I couldn't begin to understand what events when on outside my house while we were sleeping. I didn't want to face the thought that I probably wasn't safe anymore. This was supposed to be our mini freedom; the break in our hectic schedules from school. We were supposed to be outside making snowmen and snow angels and sledding down the streets, not fearing for an alien invasion in the middle of winter. It absolutely made no sense. I had to talk to someone.

Time: 10:24 AM
Day: Wednesday February 18, 2015

I decided I needed to talk to one of my good friends Carmen to make sense out of the icy disaster.
Carmen: Hey, what's up?
Me: Have you looked outside today?
Carmen: I just woke up. Why, what's going on?
Me: I think you should see something. Open your window real fast.
Carmen: Okay, but this better not be one of your sick jokes where I open up the window and find you wearing a Scream mask...Whaaaaa?? WHAT IS THAT???????
Me: Exactly. Thank you, I'm not the only one. Anyway, I think they're snow circles, aka crop circles but for the winter. I didn't even think it was possible but now that they're here I don't know what it means. What are we gonna...
Carmen: Hey! Just wait a minute. I will call Jessica on three way and see what she thinks.

To be continued...

  1. Let me start by saying Great Idea! I've never really though of snow circles in my free time. This was a good piece and you made it so that it left people wanting more. Secondly Where is the rest!!!!!! I want to know where this adventure takes Carmen, Jessica, and the narrator please. :)
